BLACK-SOLDIERS

Black Americans have served in the U.S. military since the American Revolution, and their representation in the military is higher than their representation in the U.S. population. In 2020, Black Americans made up 21% of the active-duty Army, 15% of the Army National Guard, and 21% of the Army Reserve. In the Air Force, 15% of servicemen and women are African American, and in the Navy, 17% are African American. Only the Marine Corps, at 10%, falls below the general population average of 13.4%.
